Campers from all over Germany, supplemented by community members from Denmark and the Netherlands had a common goal on 11th July 2023. They wanted to set a gigantic sign for peace. Thomas and Petra Steitz from Lübeck (D) organized the world record attempt for the »largest peace sign made of campervans from a single brand« on the Danish island of Römö (Rømø). For their very special »Pepper meeting in the far north«, they had to round up numerous motorhome enthusiasts. The couple used the network of the »Pepper Community«, in which lovers of the Weinsberg Edition »Pepper« from the manufacturer Knaus Tabbert AG are organized.

Peace sign made from campers of a single brand

Only campervans of one brand were allowed to participate in the world record attempt in this category. At least 125 vehicles had to form the peace symbol for the initial record. But first the organizational groundwork had to be done. Parking spaces had to be organized as well as a location for the formation. The choice fell on Römö, the southernmost island in the Danish Wadden Sea. This is because the Lakolk beach there is open to vehicles and offers sufficient space to carry out the record attempt in a picturesque maritime setting.

On 11th July, the Steitz couple, together with numerous helpers, were on the beach early to make the final preparations. It was especially important that the symbol consisting of the distinctive circle with the branching lines could be easily recognized. This enabled a neat placement of the campers. From 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., all the campervans were arranged to stand in their designated places.

Enough campervans in the far north?

RID record adjudicator Olaf Kuchenbecker came from Hamburg for the count and got straight to work. Neatly lined up Pepper campers formed a huge peace symbol directly on the waterline. They covered an area of 11,000 square metres, made visible in its entirety by drone photos taken from the air.

A total of 172 vehicles formed this »largest peace sign made of campervans from a single brand«. And thus achieved the world record together. Still on the beach, record adjudicator Kuchenbecker certified the new record. He awarded the organizers Petra and Thomas Steitz with a record certificate on behalf of all participants. Afterwards, everyone went to the nearby »MarskCamp« to properly celebrate the successful world record.
