In favor of a major fundraising event, Lens Slot Racing from Lens (France) organised a world record attempt with their slot cars in December 2025. They aimed to cover as many kilometres as possible with slot cars within 60 hours.
The overall goal: raising as much money as possible for »Telethon 2025« and achieving the slot car world record for France. Since June 2024, this record has been held in Heidenau (Germany). There, the slot racers drove a total of 4,787.23 kilometres, achieving the »longest distance in a slot car race (60 hours, team, analog)«. But for the French slot car club collecting money for a good cause was even more important. Their world record attempt was a part of the »Telethon«, a nationwide television fundraising campaign organised by AFM-Téléthon to collect donations for scientific research against rare genetic diseases.
World record attempt for European slot car community
To this aim, lots of events are taking place throughout France – in 2025, from 5 to 7 December. So, Lens Slot Racing, led by initiator and club president Marc Guillemant, used this period for the 60-hour racing event. Creating a great event for the community of European drivers was also important to them. Some of the participating drivers had already been involved in the world record attempt back in 2024, and even a representative from the current record holder, SLOTRACERZ e.V. attended.
The starting signal was given at 8 a.m. on 5 December. From now on, every lap driven count towards the world record. The six lanes differ slightly in length and are 37.38 metres long in average. A total of 42 drivers took turns steering the slot cars. Only Ford GT40s from slot racing manufacturer BRM in scale 1/24 were used. The race was divided into six 10-hour sections, each separated by a 5-minute break.New world record despite technical difficulties?
Since the goal of the race was a shared one, no individual or team ranking was monitored. Instead, they focussed on achieving the collective world record and raising money for the telethon. There were a few technical difficulties, which meant, that not all laps completed could be recorded. Nevertheless, the results looked good at the end of the race at 8 p.m. on 7 December 2025: after reviewing the documentation, the Record-Institute for Germany (RID) confirmed the new world record.
With 4,904.47 kilometres covered, Lens Slot Racing and the 42 drivers achieved the »longest distance in a slot car race (60 hours, team, analog)«. Congratulations for this great team achievement! The second goal of the weekend was also successful: in total, more than 83.5 million Euros has been collected during the Telethon 2025.
